Indian Government – Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) – has blocked 59 Chinese Apps on the basis that these apps are engaged in activities prejudicial and threat to sovereignty and integrity of India which includes defense and security of India.
MEITY invoked section 69 A of Information Technology Act (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009, for banning these apps, earlier app like TIK TOK was in dispute and controversy due to the nature of contents being loaded and distributed by the users over TIK TOK.
As per PIB Delhi, MEITY has received many complaints from various sources including several reports about misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India. The compilation of these data, its mining and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defense of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs has issued list of 59 apps which are threat for Indian Sovereignty and security and has disallowed the usage of these apps.
